Soundcloud has made a lot of improvements in recent months that benefit both artists and music consumers. Giving users more options to stream music, safer login procedures and better ways to organise tracks are just some of the features they’ve been working on. Not to mention a fresh new look donned by some areas of the site. We’re excited to see what comes next from the product team, but for the moment, here’s a little run down of what’s changed in the last few months.

Road Trips for iPhone Users just got better!

SoundCloud is available on Apple Carplay for Go, Go+, and Next Pro subscribers. Previously only available to Android Auto users, iPhone users can now listen to SoundCloud while driving with Apple CarPlay. Just connect your iPhone and quickly access your Recently Played, Library, Uploads and the new Surprise Me feature.

Logging in just got safer with 2FA

Soundcloud is committed to keeping its users data as safe as possible and is encouraging all users to up their security game by enabling two-factor authorization (2FA).

After pairing your device with a 2FA app, you will then be asked to enter a quick security code whenever you log in to your account to prove it’s you, not a bot or hacker.

Introducing First Fans – AI that helps you reach more fans on upload

Most streaming services recommend tracks based on what similar people are listening to. If someone similar to me listens to and likes “Chris Stussy”, chances are I’ll be recommended a track of his.

That obviously works well for artists who are already being heard. But what about all of the songs that don’t have any plays yet? Well, that’s exactly the problem with most music algorithms. They simply can’t recommend tracks with zero plays. If no one has listened yet, there’s no way to target it.

Subscribers to Next Pro can now utilise SoundClouds latest AI offering called ‘First Fans’ to quickly analyze tracks and surface them to listeners who are likely to enjoy them. New music gets a better shot at getting heard and music fans get the chance to discover it. Win-win.

Bulk Edits in Track Manager

Another area that’s seen an overhaul is Track Manager. Now you can bulk edit multiple tracks at once, add tracks to playlists, and quickly edit a single track. It’s part of a greater revamp to improve user experience and refresh the platform over the coming months, so watch this space.

Removal of Sync with SoundCloud

SoundCloud have tried to alleviate the friction and frustration of using the “Monetize” tab. Previously artists had to manually push a button to sync the data to see their tracks, resulting in confusion. Now, tracks are automatically synced.
